Hew Stevenson took up family history in 1950 when he was ten, collecting family traditions from his great aunts born in the 1860s. At 18, as the fifth generation, he went into his family’s old newspaper business on Tyneside, finally to become chairman of Westminster Press, a subsidiary of Pearson plc and one of the UK’s largest regional newspaper groups. He is married to Leslie Geddes-Brown, author of books on décor and gardening.
